Frederick Augustus. Duke of York and Albany 1763-1827.
The Duke of York was the second son of George III. His older brother was to become King George IV and his younger brother, the Duke of Clarence, was later King William IV. His next youngest brother was the Duke of Kent who would later become the father of Queen Victoria.
From 1793 to 1795 the French Revolutionary army fought against an allied army lead by Prince of Coburg. The British contingent was lead by the Duke of York. During this time the French King and Queen were executed and the Dauphin died of apparent ill-treatment.
The siege of Valenciennes from June 13th to July 28th 1793 was the most important victory for the Duke of York.
